Newhaven Chamber of Commerce Lunch Club – April
The third Thursday of every month the Newhaven Chamber of Commerce holds a networking lunch club at the Newhaven Enterprise Centre on Denton Island from 12 noon until 2 pm.
This month the lunch was aimed at focussing on the businesses on Denton Island. Representatives from across the town came to see the showcase of the variety of businesses located on the Island.
Speakers included: the vice president of the chamber, Chris Holdway of Kendal Office Supplies; and the regeneration manager,Tracey Evans of Newhaven Strategic Network.
Denton Island has a campus effect with the Enterprise Centre, the Children and Family Centre (CaFC) and Sussex Downs College. A Skills Centre is planned to join the nursery and college buildings. Penny Shimmin, chief executive of Newhaven Community Development Association told the lunch club about the wide variety of services offered from the CaFC and Sam Brown, manager of Newhaven Community Employment Partnership (NewCEP) told the club about the support they offer businesses and people returning to work.
Through the commonality of objectives of some of the attendees, barriers to employment such as ill health, and training needs were discussed.
Next month the focus of the lunch is 'Trading Within the Coastal Strip'. The Chamber already works closely with those of Peacehaven and Seaford, and this event is to support the businesses trading between Brighton, Lewes and Eastbourne.
A big thank you to Claire Murray at the Newhaven Enterprise Centre and Andi and Penny at the Riverside Cafe for providing an excellent lunch
