The Newhaven Chamber of Commerce Networking Breakfast Club meets weekly and is an excellent way to meet new customers and suppliers for your business. Although the meetings are structured they are friendly and informal with the emphasis on developing relationships to help each member’s business interests.

Forthcoming speakers:

23 August – James Kelly, Storganise
James will be introducing the concept of smart working – you don’t need to be a slave to your computer; it’s there to serve you. Stop worrying about how you should adapt the way you operate to get the computer to do what you want.

By getting some software created for the tasks you do each day, then the job will be done the way you need it to be done, saving you hours of frustration. For example – a factory making tea bags. They have streamlined their processes to remove humans who need breaks and get things wrong, and fluctuate at the rate they get jobs done. Regardless of your opinion of this, it has made the process of creating tea bags a lot slicker.

Imagine your business as a factory – You will have tasks you do each day. They are likely to be connected to contacts (suppliers or customers), dates, products, services. If you were a huge company you’d get a management consultant to look at how you deal with all this and recommend some equipment to automate parts of the process. If you are a small company, you can’t afford that, and can’t think about it right now as you are too busy.

The factory, for most businesses, can simply be the way you process orders, invoices and contacts, and can be streamlined really simply. Compared to the amount of time your employees will save, this is not an expensive project, and can be undertaken in just a few days.

It can also then shape the way you work – instead of thinking “How do I do that?” you will start asking “Can we get our software to do that?”
