The following organisations and their descriptions are intended as a resource for all members in need of help and support in the business community. All listings here are endorsed and supported by the Newhaven Chamber of Commerce, including other business networking organisations.

British Chambers of Commerce
The British Chambe rs of Commerce (BCC) is the national body for a powerful an d influential Network of Accredited Chambers of Commerce across the UK; a Network that directly serves not only its member businesses but the wider business community.
Federation of Small Businesses
The Federation of Small Businesses is the UK's largest campaigning pressure group promoting and protecting the interests of the self-employed and owners of small firms. Formed in 1974, it now has 215,000 members across 33 regions and 230 branches.
Our lobbying arm - led by the Westminster Press and Parliamentary office - applies pressure on MPs, Government and Whitehall and puts the FSB viewpoint over to the media. The FSB also has Press and Parliamentary Offices in Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast to lobby the devolved assemblies. Policy Managers work alongside Regional Development Agencies to further FSB influence at a regional level.
In addition, Member Services is committed to delivering a wide range of high quality, good value business services to members of the FSB. These services will be subject to continuing review and will represent a positive enhancement to the benefit of membership of the Leading Business Organisation in the UK.
First Friday Networking
The Friday Network is a monthly free business networking event held on various Fridays with meetings across East Sussex, West Sussex and Hampshire.
The value of networking is now widely accepted. Most businesses realise that word-of-mouth recommendation is by far the best way to gain new business. If you are looking for new customers, new suppliers or merely want to meet and chat with other business people to share experiences, talk about your recent successes or discuss mutual problems, then bring some business cards and come along.
Newhaven Employer Community Partnership (NewCEP)
NewCEP is a local charity funded by the European Social Fund which provides free advice and guidance to unemployed people in Newhaven, Hailsham and Uckfield. The organisation works closely with local businesses to fill vacancies and help often disadvantaged clients find sustained employment, work placements or volunteering opportunities.
NewCEP has a dedicated Employer Co ordinator who can provide assistance to businesses looking for access to subsidised training, support for staff facing redundancy and advice on work placements or trials.

Newhaven Enterprise Centre
Newhaven Enterprise Centre, built by SEEDA and owned by Lewes District Council is a business centre aimed at supporting new and small businesses, particularly those wanting to take the next step on from working from home. The Centre on Denton Island offers 46 business units comprising workshops, studios and offices for new and expanding businesses with a flexible license agreement, 24/7 access and access to business support.
The centre also offers virtual offices ideal for new businesses working from home and fully equipped meeting and training rooms.

Profitnet enables small and medium-sized enterprises to learn from each other and gain access to the expertise of the University of Brighton, as well as receiving input from practitioners in every business area.
Owners and senior managers of businesses work together, in total confidentiality, to find solutions to their current business problems and help each other to seek new opportunities.
Profitnet works through structured learning, informal networking, communication and knowledge-sharing with peers and experts and aims to help members understand their business in depth.
Profitnet has four main aims:
- To enable members to bring about measurable improvements in their company’s profitability
- To improve leadership capability
- To encourage members to work towards a coherent business plan
- To enable members to bridge the gap between planning and doing
Seahaven FM is Genuinely Local Community Radio for Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven, Lewes & surrounding areas of East Sussex
Seahaven FM is a Community Radio Station which was set up in early 2008 to provide "Genuinely Local Radio" to the communities in the area in East Sussex known as Seahaven.
Seahaven FM is one of the 48 stations in the South East of the UK that applied to Ofcom for a full time Community Radio licence in the second round of applications. Its application was submitted in November 2008 and the decision should be known in September 2009.
The station has been broadcasting 24 hours a day 7 days a week on the Internet since the 1st Feb 2008 and had completed 2 short term Restricted Service Licence (RSL) broadcasts and has provided facilities for 2 other RSL broadcasts by other groups.

Business Development Team
The University welcomes the opportunity to work with business and public sector organisations. The business development team can support access to academic and student talent, collaborative networks, consultancy, research, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, access to funding, licensing opportunities and incubation facilities.
Young Enterprise is the UK's leading business and enterprise education charity. It offers a range of programmes, based on the principle of Learning by Doing, which brings volunteers from business into the classroom to work with teachers and students.
The businesses and volunteers that support Young Enterprise take an active role in building a better-motivated, educated and enterprising workforce, at the same time making a real difference to the existing lives and future potential of young people who live and attend school in their area.
